No.103 - 15

Hi,
As we move away from the busyness of Easter services , this quote of  John Newton is worth remembering... (FYI he said this to William Wilberforce)
"Religion is not confined to devotional exercises, but rather consists in doing all we are called to do with a single eye to God's glory and will, from a grateful sense and mercy to us.
This is the alchemy which turns everything into gold."

What a great line.. and it begs the question 'What do I value in the mundane, everyday matters - what's golden for me?'
And if you want a soundtrack for this life click here for Stuart Townend's excellent Liturgy of the Hours

Enjoy the mag.

Letter from the Manse

Dear Congregation,
scott and anita
Two reasons to be thankful this week – you can read more about the SU Retiring Offering and “Easter In The Light” event below.
However, re Sunday evening can I add a huge thanks to our elders Debbie, Margo and Elizabeth who followed up on the vision to have an outreach event on Easter Sunday Evening. Pray that out of that evening many of us may have had our faith deepened and some maybe even gifted new birth! To add a personal note; with little participation from myself on the night, I sat amongst the congregation drenched by the grace and love of Christ as He met with me in the good news of Easter. Thanks to all who ministered to me! (and I believe, all who were there).

There are also two future events I want to highlight;

The first is a wedding this Saturday 23rd April at 3pm!
Many of us have been getting to know Christy Ringrose and Thane Campbell since they became part of our worshipping congregation last summer.
Thane and Christy will marry at Holy Cross Anglican Church, Nassau (Bahamas) on Saturday at 3pm our time. The service will be live-streamed and you are invited to join them via this link

The second event you may want to plug into is “Songs of Praise” this Sunday24th April at 1.15pm.
I think this is the first time I have ever advertised Songs of Praise! However, this particular Songs of Praise will include interviews with Russell MacMillan and his work in East Renfrewshire Good Causes. Some of the filming took place on our church premises.
The BBC advert for the programme says, “Russell Macmillan, who is registered blind, explains why he helps those in need in East Renfrewshire with small acts of kindness that make a big difference.”

With warmest regards and prayers,

Scott

Retiral Offering for SU Scotland

SU Scotland have sent thanks to us all for the generous donation that went to them as our retiring offering in March. The total given through the available methods was £962. This will be used to allow children to get to the various camps and enjoy the opportunities that this offers for fun, friendship building, and learning more about our faith.

“Your gifts will enable children and young people to attend an SU Holiday, …As we look forward, in faith to a full programme at nine locations – for the first time in three years – can I ask you to pray with us for God’s blessing on the children and young people who attend.”

Thanks to you all!
Linda Renn

Easter in the Light

Thank you to everyone who was involved in our Easter celebration concert on Sunday both upfront and behind the scenes. It was a great evening when we were able to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour with folk from a number of churches and some with no church connection at all.
All who took part did so with professionalism but more importantly with conviction. It was a really uplifting evening of praise and worship.
Elizabeth S.

To all who contributed their gifts in music, singing and other spoken contributions were are indebted for an outstanding Gospel presentation. As I spent most of the evening in the congregation, I was personally caught up with the congregation gloriously in the love and saving grace of our Saviour Jesus.
It was good to welcome so many guests for what turned out to be an almost full church! Many thanks Sue Anderson and others for providing beautiful cakes and refreshments. The challenge for those assisting in car parking does not go unnoticed and we appreciate that huge contribution! Those on the door brought a warm welcome to all.
A wonderful congregational effort – not easy - but an even larger blessing for all present I believe!

Our effort was mostly directed at what happened on the church premises and not how it would appear on YouTube (which is a very different matter). However, the evening can still be accessed on this link to our YouTube channel.

Masks in Worship

We shall continue to make hand sanitizer available for entering and exiting our buildings. You now have liberty to wear a mask or not on our premises and especially in worship. The Kirk Session is aware that some do not want to abandon their mask indoors yet (especially in larger gatherings) and also feel the need to keep a little distance from those who are not wearing masks. To accommodate this mix of thought, we would ask that the area of seating next to the band (against the wall on the right hand side facing the front) be kept for those who want to wear a mask and keep some distance from those not wearing masks. Masks can of course still be worn in the two main bodies of seating where there will be a mix of some with and some without masks.  We understand that some choose to sit in that side section as a matter of general preference. We hope that if this request means you have to move to another area of seating in the short term, because you do not want to wear a mask, that you will understand we are trying to accommodate as many concerns as possible at this transitional time. Thanks for your understanding on this.
