No.119  2nd September

Hi,
Hope this finds you well.
The magazine has fewer articles this month but lots of news of events coming up and regular weekly clubs starting again.
For instance, did you know the Prayer Meeting had changed to a Thursday. In fact, did you even know there was a prayer meeting?
If I was to ask you what the most poorly attended meeting at Maxwell is, you might suggest, 'Sandy and David's Etiquette Class' or  'Margaret B's Exercise Group' or, equally high up in the 'hawd me back' stakes,  the AV team's weekly invite to come along and discuss sub bass, woofers, and pre faders. But, unfortunately, it's actually the Pulse prayer meeting... so-called in order to press upon us that prayer is what will be at the beating heart of Maxwell...someone grab the defib.

Enjoy the mag!

Gen Z Sunday

Gen z

We are looking forward to the youth being involved in the service this Sunday - hearing about the work in the universities amongst other things, a focus on praying for those at Uni, and hearing from our new(ish) youth worker Jacob Ingleson too.
We should be praying for the Generation Z (aka Gen Z, iGen, or centennials), ie born between 1997-2012, following Millennials. This generation has been raised on the internet and social media... they are at the sharp end of things with their peers when it comes to standing for Biblical truths.
In this article a fellow Gen Z outlines the pressures they feel in believing the Bible and yet, the real hope and certainty found there too.
"Because of our sinfulness, inerrant is often the last thing we want the Bible to be"

Coffee Club Aug 22

The Castle Coffee Club starts up again on Tuesday 13th September.

We look forward to welcoming back all our guests and would be delighted to welcome new folk as well!
We couldn't run the Coffee Club without a faithful team of volunteers and as we start up again, we are looking for more bakers and other volunteers to help set up, serve and chat with our guests. If you can help at all even occasionally, please let me know.

All welcome.

no other name

At the Prayer meeting this week we considered the verse from Acts 4.
"Salvation comes no other way; no other name has been or will be given to us by which we can be saved, only this one.” (The Message)
Robin Mark has a great track 'No other name' which expresses this superbly.
Watch on Youtube here.
It's on Spotify too - the Album is Robin Mark - Revival in Belfast

Castle Toddlers Return!

Castle Toddlers 1200 x 1200 FB

We are looking forward to our new toddlers sessions beginning and pleased to be able to return to our old drop-in style format rather than having to book in advance. Both Monday and Tuesday sessions are open to any parent/grandparent/carer with a child not yet at school. Please share with friends and neighbours! Contact Pauline at mmcastlefmaily@gmail.com for more information.

Castle Toddlers Baking Rota

Pre-covid the home baking at toddlers was very much enjoyed by those who came along. We would love to be able to provide this again and so we'd like to create a baking rota with lots of people on it so that people only have to bake occasionally. Baking would be able to be dropped off in the church kitchen on Sunday mornings. If you can help with this extremely important ministry please get in touch with Pauline. Thank you!

Getting Shirty
 Gab jesus

Last weekend, this great quote from Rabbi Miriam Berger was spotted. The Rabbi's son Ben, wanted the name of the new striker, Gabriel Jesus, printed on his Arsenal shirt. Quote, " Couldn't Arsenal have made my life easier by signing Victor Moses or Tammy Abraham "

big arran cycle

Hello all
I hope you don’t mind this appeal to you for support for a charitable cause.
I have the opportunity to help raise funds for a local charity in my home town of Glasgow.

The Glasgow City Mission are involved in:

  • helping people in Glasgow affected by homelessness and poverty

  • providing overnight accommodation for people who would otherwise sleep rough

  • helping children and parents in Govan district in Glasgow to fulfil their potential

The charity has organised a fund raising event that will take place on Saturday 17 September 2022.
My challenge is to complete a road cycle circuit of the Isle of Arran, comprising a journey of 57 miles (92 km). I’m training hard but this will be a fair test at my age and condition, and in uncertain Scottish weather!

I realise that home budgets are under pressure at the moment with rising costs of living, so any contribution at all that you can make, even the smallest amount, will make a huge difference to those that the charity can help.

A link to my JustGiving page is below, along with a link to the charity website, with details of the event and the work of the charity.
I hope you might consider supporting if you can and many thanks for taking the time to read my appeal.
Thanks and regards,
