SUMMER SPECIAL

Hi,
With some exciting news for Maxwell it seems more than worthwhile having a Summer Special Edition of the Magazine.
(Hands up if you used to get the Beano or the Whizzer and Chips Summer Specials??...just me then..?)

Enjoy the mag.

From the Manse

Dear Congregation,scott
This is a very brief magazine really to highlight;

The arrival soon of our new youth worker.

We have been so blessed by the way Ian H, Eilidh and Jamie and others have continued to minister to our youth over this last seven months or so.
We look forward to Jacob Ingleson joining the team in August. Let’s look for ways to welcome Jacob and Jess on their arrival in August and find new ways to assist our youth in their ministry to our young people (see article and picture below).

Presbytery Planning

I would like to invite everyone to join with me in prayer about our Presbytery Planning process - which continues.
We have met four times with the rest of the congregations in the cluster (and also with a facilitator). The fifth meeting will be on 21st July.
So far Presbytery has obligated us to reflect on the creation of a Mission Plan for the cluster. The next meeting may be particularly important as we discuss the distribution of the reduced ministry posts (3), we assess the ongoing use of buildings and how the congregations in the cluster will relate structurally to one another!

I am assuming that we are all praying personally about the decisions being made and the potential impact of this plan on Maxwell.  However, I believe it will be good to have further times of prayer together about this matter.
Lord willing, I hope we can meet for prayer (up to 45 minutes) in the sanctuary;
  • 11th July 4pm
  • 18th July 7pm
  • 28th July 7.30am

New Youth Worker - Jacob Ingleson

Photo Jacob and Jess

Hello, my name is Jacob and I’m the soon to be youth worker at Maxwell Mearns.
A bit of background on me, I grew up in Bridge of weir in Renfrewshire after which I moved to London for my gap year as a software analyst before heading off to Aberdeen Uni where I eventually settled on studying Geography (but don’t let me navigate anywhere).
After university I moved to Dundee to be a part of UCCFs Relay graduate program where I worked specifically with Abertay Universities Christian Union, helping the students there spread the Gospel on campus.
After that finished, I moved on to a post as a Ministry Apprentice at Grace Church Dundee, where I have got the opportunity to be trained in several different ministries in the church. It has involved praying and working with different members of the congregation as they live for Christ. This also included two days a week at Cornhill, Bible training school in Glasgow with other Ministry apprentices from across Scotland.

I am really looking forward to starting at Maxwell Mearns in August and getting involved straight away with things like holiday club.
If you do see me looking a bit lost and confused feel free to say hello and direct me where you think I need to go.
My Fiancée, who will be my wife on July 27th, is called Jess and she is doing a masters in Midwifery at the University of the West of Scotland. Together we enjoy cooking good food, playing board games/video games and occasionally she will begrudgingly climb a mountain with me.
We are both looking forward to moving to the area and getting stuck in at Maxwell Mearns and meeting the congregation.

BROOMBURN STEPS

BROOMBURN STEPS

Earlier this year an article in the magazine asking for volunteers to complement the existing team that looks after the Broomburn Steps was published. It emphasised the need for this to be done regularly to effectively manage the natural debris and the rubbish that accumulates every week. The following before and after photographs provide an indication of how quickly natural debris builds up over a single week. The black bin bag contains rubbish collected adjacent to the path and this was taken during school holidays when the kids were not at school!!

I am sorry to say that one of our team members has had to step down very recently due to ill-health and this now reduces the team to a married couple and two individuals. Consequently, without additional help we will no longer be able to carry out our maintenance every week in the year and it is inevitable that natural and man-made debris will gradually increase. Our last appeal for additional help wasn’t successful and prayerfully, this latest appeal will prove more fruitful!
