No.104    29th April 2022

Hi,
As you can see from the list below there is plenty to find out about. Pauline wins for most mentions this week although claims that she appears in the Ladybird book page again are unsubstantiated. Great to see the school work starting up again - remember Pauline (and those who work alongside her) in prayer as she heads up so many good things going on around the community.

Enjoy the mag.

Vagabonds

vagabonds

At the prayer meeting for the last couple of weeks we have been considering the brokenness of humanity and God's loving, and gracious masterplan to right the wrongs, and bring full, glorious restoration and redemption.
And we considered those who were involved in God's planning - Vagabonds. Like us.
Here is Stuart Townend's fantastic reminder of those who God is bringing into His Kingdom. Vagabonds

And this link has Townend telling the interesting story behind why he wrote the song.

“Much praying is NOT done because we do not plan to pray. We do not drift into spiritual life; we do not drift into disciplined prayer. We will not grow in prayer unless we plan to pray. That means we must self-consciously set aside time to do nothing but pray.”
Don Carson.

School Chaplaincy Update

end slide

From September 2020 to March 2022 the four Church of Scotlands and the Baptist Church in Newton Mearns produced virtual assemblies for Crookfur, Kirkhill, Maidenhill and Mearns Primaries. These were well received by the schools and created some new connections for us. Fortunately there is now no longer a need for these as we are able to return in person to schools.

In the week leading up to Easter the chaplaincy team at Mearns Primary (myself, Dave from Baptist church, Stuart from Newton Mearns Parish and Joe from Mearns Kirk) were in on four days leading Easther themed assemblies with every year group. We received such a warm welcome from staff and pupils and are looking forward to being back in the school more in the summer term.

We are also able to restart the SU group there after the Easter holidays.  (See below the flyer going out to families for the SU Group restarting at Mearns PS with Pauline and Heather)

Prayer for the logistics of this would be appreciated as lunchtimes are now staggered and shorter. Please also pray for us as we seek to further connections and our presence within the other 3 primary schools.

This is what Jesus does

jesus and boy

“After crying out and convulsing him terribly, [the unclean spirit] came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, ‘He is dead.’ But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.” Mark 9:26-27

This is what Jesus does. He takes people whose lives are decimated—those who are en route to destruction—and He does what only He can do: He enters that life, takes the person by the hand, lifts them up… and they stand. Jesus is the only one who can truly say, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:25-26). He is the only one who can take someone who seems absolutely helpless and completely unable to effect change in themselves, and give them new life. So today, Jesus comes to you and says, Why don’t you just bring your burdens to Me? You can’t educate yourself out of pain and sorrows. Therapy won’t give you lasting answers for all your hurt and confusion. Truly, it’s good that you know you can’t do this on your own. Bring your burdens to Me. Not only that, but He can come to others through you.

There is no one you will meet today who does not need Jesus’ help, and no one whom Jesus cannot help. However bright someone’s life looks, there is normally regret and anxiety under the surface, and there is always the sin that is slowly dragging each of us to destruction—unless and until Jesus intervenes. When you learn to see those around you in this way, you long to share Christ with them; for there is no one whom Jesus cannot help.

pray now

Are you on the Pray Now WhatsApp Group? Perhaps the start of the year is a good time to join in.
If you want to be added to the group to receive prayer news then simply ask Margaret and she will add your number to the list.

If you have a matter that you would like to be prayed about in this way, you can contact Margaret Boyd or Scott and they will organise for news to be sent out.

Hizkidz - crèche

On Sunday the West Room on the mid floor will be available for parents/grandparents and younger children to use.
The livestream of the service will (hopefully!) be playing on the TV and there are toys available too.
Speak to Pauline on Sunday who can show you which room to go into when the children leave for Hizkidz.
