From the Manse

Dear Congregation,
I can hardly believe we are now in August!
The summer seems to have raced by. However, I do hope that these weeks included some rest time for you. Anita and I look forward to meeting up with her mum and family later this month in Pittsburgh.
Presently, we have several exciting events about to happen in the life of our congregation.
New Youth Worker
The first exciting thing is that our new youth worker, Jacob, will join with us this Sunday. Let’s make Jacob (and Jess) so welcome. Let’s do this as a congregation, but please welcome them personally. They have so many “new starts” in their lives. They have just married on 27th July, they moved to a new area - Eaglesham, they will be moving to a new church- MMCC and Jacob will begin a new job! Let’s offer them all our love and prayers.
Let’s pray for them as a couple and for Jacob’s ministry among our youth and congregation more generally.
Holiday Club
The second exciting thing is that our holiday club begins next week (8th August – 12th). You will see separate notices about this. Again, please cover this week in prayer.

On more general church life,
Daniel
Some of you were praying for Daniel Clarke as you were aware that he had received a kick in the region of his eye playing rugby and needed an operation. This had left his flying career in doubt. We were absolutely delighted to hear Daniel got “the all clear for take-off” and is now back full time in his studies.
Presbytery Plan
My recent emails to the congregation have left you pretty much up to date. However, to recap, the next meeting of the cluster congregations will be this coming week and the aim is to have a (round-robin) “congregation-to-congregation” conversation on potential relationships. At MMCC we still believe it best for us to contribute as fully as we can to the ministry and mission of the Mearns/Eaglesham churches but without us entering a formal structural relationship.
Douglas Campbell
It is with sadness we heard of the unexpected death of Douglas Campbell earlier in the  week. Douglas was one of the longest serving members of our congregation. The aim will be to have a service of thanksgiving in the church. The details are not yet available. We shall keep you informed as plans put in place.
Start-Up Again After Summer
Please watch out for the starting dates of our various groups....some are mentioned below.
And here is advance notice of a group we want all to consider who want to reflect on the faith in a smaller group or are thinking about professing faith – Hope Explored! Coming soon in September.

Warmest Regards
Scott

HOLIDAY CLUB

8th-12th August

Holiday club begins on Monday! We have over 70 children registered! We would really value your prayers (see the daily prayer pointers below to get you started) and any practical help you can offer in the ways mentioned below.

Thank you
Pauline, Colin and the holiday club team

REQUESTS:
  • We are in need of some blue Maxwell polo shirts for holiday club. If anyone has one and is not needing it during holiday club week  please could we borrow yours? Pop your name on the label and hand it to Pauline on Sunday at church or get in touch 07764741978 for her to collect.
  • Any final newspapers for decorating can be handed in on Sunday too. Thank you to everyone who has handed things in already.
  • If you would like to be part of the holiday club prayer team then speak to Graeme Lipsett 07703262276
  • Finally, we are hoping for some home baking for our family lunch on Wednesday. Any donations can be handed in Monday-Wednesday mornings and empty tubs/tins collected on Sunday.
PRAYER POINTS
Sunday:: Pray for the team setting up this afternoon, that everything will come together and we’ll all get a good night’s rest. Give thanks for the fantastic team of volunteers that has come together. Pray for the children who have signed up to attend and that they might be excited to join us.

Monday :: Today we will be discovering that children are important to Jesus and can use us all to do amazing things. Pray for children and team settling in and that the programme and all the technical elements run smoothly.
Tuesday :: Today we will find out that Jesus is in control and what it means to have faith. Pray for the group leaders as they explore the Bible with their groups and engage in discussions. Pray too for all of our youth helpers – many serving for the first time.
Wednesday :: Today we will be presenting the counter cultural view of loving our neighbours and our enemies through the stories of Zacchaeus and the Good Samaritan. Pray for the team as we show the children how we live differently as Christians. Pray too for our family lunch – for good conversations and relationships to be built and deepened.

Thursday :: Today we will learn about Jesus as a healer. Pray for wisdom as we potentially face tricky questions and help us to have the right words to speak into different situations.

Friday :: Today we will share the good news of Jesus death and resurrection. Pray against distractions to God’s word being heard and pray expectantly that children will take steps towards coming to or growing in faith.

Saturday:: Give thanks for all that has happened in the past week and that the message we have shared will remain in the children’s heads and hearts. Pray for rest for the team and for preparations for the Sunday service. Pray that children might encourage their families to come along to the service so they too can hear God’s message of good news.

Congratulations

Even though we are physically back in Germany, our hearts are still on the road somewhere between Japan and Germany. It will probably take a while until we are completely adjusted to our new home.,,,
